Physical Well-being

A disabled doing physical activity

  • Stressing the need for high physical standards in every segment of society is very important.
  • As the future is concerned, ultimate dependence on technology is highly anticipated. Therefore, an important awareness campaign is compulsory to maintain at least the bare minimum of physical standards.

As Jay Cutler Puts on:

“What hurts you today makes you stronger tomorrow”

According to WHO, in 2022 1 in 8 people were suffering from Obesity, which can be compared with 1990 when only 4.8% of men and 8.8% of women were obese. Over 35 years, this is a drastic lethal change. Almost all of its credit goes to the adoption of a sedentary lifestyle especially in 1st world countries.

Physical Training starts from Childhood:

In today’s context, children are getting an excess of care in terms of physical activity. They are even told not to do daily home chores e.g. trimming grass or branches of trees which is told to be the task of the gardener. In turn, children grow up with the mentality that only the lower class is made for the daily routine chores that require physical activity.

Parents must tell their children to participate in physical activity, might it be games or any chore. This gives the child an opportunity to habituate with the physical activity and once he does so, it becomes his lifelong practice to maintain a bare minimum physical activity.

According to WHO, as of 2022, 390m children aged 5-19 years are overweight. This overweight in some children will result in the early onset of Diabetes like complications.

It was determined that people with obesity had a 55% increased risk of developing depression over time, and that depressed people had a 58% increased risk of obesity.

-National Institute of Health

Physical exertion is an almost definite antidote for depression in many ways. We’ll discuss this section deeply in the “Mental Health” section as well. Some of the important endorphins are released during a physical that elevates our mood.

How Social life is improved?:

  • A physically fit, slim, and smart person is liked everywhere because a person who keeps himself up to the mark of physical standards also represents his other aspects of life like priorities and discipline.
  • Being physically perfect also boosts confidence and increases the communicability of the said individuals.

Apart from all the benefits discussed above, physical activities might of any kind have some benefits in common regarding their social importance i.e.

  1.  Social skill development like co-operation, teamwork, etc.
  2. Making new social links via group hobbies
  3. Getting experience by trying newer things

Aging Antidote:

Old man doing physical activity

Slogan of The American College of Sports Medicine is “Exercise is Medicine”

How people in the past lived for hundreds of years. Apart from evolution as has been theoretically explained by Darwin, physical standards and nutrition were the main culprits that made them live so long.

Aging decreases in three ways i.e.

  1. Reduces risk of depression and dementia(According to Oxford University depression reduces life expectancy by 7-11yrs)
  2. Reduces incidence of Ischemic Heart Disease, Diabetes Mellitus, and CVA
  3. Potentially reduce risk of cancers e.g. Stomach, Blabber, Colon, Esophagus, Endometrium, etc.

There is a famous quote;

Slow and Steady wins the race.

Whoever has been demoralized by his/her physical standards and feels ashamed of his/her body should start his day by letting off procrastination.

Taking a start is the condition. A man who has started any physical activity is further pumped by the Dopamine rush and he enjoys doing that certain activity.

Surrounding a company also matters a lot in pushing an individual to do certain things. Moral support contributes a lot to building confidence. So, a man should surround himself/herself with genuine and supportive people.
