Mental Health
Our mental health is deteriorating day by day as we are diving into a sedentary lifestyle. Apart from physical standards, other environmental factors also play a crucial role in maintaining mental health. We’ll discuss all these factors in detail and a way forward to it.
1. Unemployment:

Global Finance Magazine shows the worldwide unemployment rate is 5.1%, the highest in Africa. Unemployment leads to frustration among youth. The literacy rate is increasing daily, but poverty and employment are decreasing.
According to the World Bank, around 700 million people live below the poverty line. Poverty ultimately forces young people into dacoities and other social evils. The more population there is, the more competition for money and space will be.
2. Depression:

Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but stigma and bias shame us all.
Bill Clinton
As already mentioned, according to WHO, around 280 million people are suffering from depression. With time, this figure will rise due to multiple environmental factors that youth are encountering. Depression worsens the efficiency of every task.
Drug addiction is the main side effect that is a by-product of depression. So, mental health not only damages your brain but adversely affects physical efficiency as well. Physical well-being is directly proportional to the mental health, a sound body will have a sound mind.
3. Social Factors affecting Mental Health:

There is a famous quote;
A man is known by the company he keeps.
Maintaining mental health is a continuous tug-of-war between socially driven desires and himself. For instance, those who are drug addicted, mostly have such company and they also become a victim of such evils.
So, it is worth mentioning that maintaining a good social company helps you a lot in persuing higher mental health standards. As per the UNODC report, around 296 million people were suffering from drug addiction in 2021, and only 1 in 7 received treatment.
4. Lack of Motivation and Energy:

Lack of motivation and energy is a self-made by-product of overthinking. It might be associated with other social and environmental factors. Lack of motivation is interlinked with lack of confidence. For instance, going to the gym for bodybuilding is all about confidence before embracing a task.
Another cause of low energy is the presence of pessimism in a particular company where a man lives.
Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is.
Vince Lombardi
Way Forward!:

Mental health is all about maintaining a work-life balance. The discipline of balancing the two should be mastered as early as possible. We should adopt important optimistic aspects of life.
- Hope;
The majority of the youth are suffering from depression due to unemployment and the imminent threat of poverty.
Don’t loose hope nor be sad ” Says Allah in Quran 3:139
- Good Company;
Keeping good company will keep a man inspired by his good friend. Good friends and family members are foregranted blessings that always work as a push in moments of despair.
A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend.
Muhammad(PBUH)
- Practicing Religion;
Almost all religions teach optimism and peace. No religion teaches robbery, dacoity, or other evils. So, anyone in a moment of despair should stick to his religion. It is very common to reach out to a religious scholar to learn good social practices during depression.
- Meditation;

Meditation is a corrective analysis essential for improving one’s life in good faith. Post-task analysis is a part of meditation, and once one performs it by heart, one always remembers the “do’s” and “don’ts” in one’s mind for future compliance.
- Appreciate Yourself;
Appreciating oneself is a blessing that keeps a person at a pace and pushes him further. It is a meaningful way a person can use it to alleviate a lack of motivation.
The same goes for the opposite situation. After having a bad day or bad performance, it gives a chance to meditate on his bad luck. If he has intentionally performed poorly, he should regret it and vow not to repeat the same course of action.
